Rustic Sophistication
Arcadian tradition meets modern sensibility
A scenic landscape of rolling hills, streams and ponds
provides a stately backdrop along the half-mile drive
to this country estate. Flanked on either side by a simple
split rail horse fence, one is immediately struck by
the rustic beauty and pastoral elegance of the surroundings.
Of special note is the fully functional covered bridge,
adorned with hand-carved ornamentation, which crosses
a stream along the drive leading up to the entrance of
the home and serves as a gateway of sorts to an estate
where arcadian tradition meets modern sensibility.

Cumin
People from all religious persuasions have been know
to say a blessing prior to the start of a meal. At Cumin,
a superb Indian fusion destination at 3720 Erie Avenue,
that has already been taken care of, courtesy of a Hindu
priest who blessed the restaurant in a traditional ceremony
when it reopened at this location in 2006. Whether you
call it divine intervention or old-fashioned hard work
and ingenuity, our recent dinner there was heavenly.

Deco: The Jazz Age Antique
I have always loved Deco furniture. Deco, of course,
is short for Art Deco, which is recognized as the last
acknowledged period of antique furniture. While Art Deco
furniture is the main focus here, the Art Deco style
influenced many aspects of culture including art, architecture,
jewelry and even the design of automobiles.

Lamborghini Reventón
2007 was a banner year for Lamborghini. Sales were up
by 15.3 percent over the previous year, and a total of
2406 super sports cars were placed with new owners worldwide.
Commenting on the record year, President and CEO of Lamborghini
Stephen Winkelmann said, “Our relentless focus on increasing
our brand value, an extraordinary product range and the
global presence of the corporation is beginning to pay
off on a world-wide scale. We will continuously develop
our model line-up, our presence and the ‘shine’ of the
brand.”

Jazzed up in Montréal
"Please,” pleaded Martin, our personable tour guide,
“let everyone know that a visit to Montréal is not just
like a trip to France.” Once you look beyond the language
similarities, you’ll quickly discover a multi-cultural
gem that is rooted in history while becoming one of the
world’s most progressive cosmopolitan areas.

Everyday Do Something Just a
Little Better
Mike Grgich celebrates 50 years of winemaking in Napa Valley
Mike Grgich stepped off a Greyhound bus in Napa Valley’s
St. Helena on August 15, 1958. He arrived with almost
no money in his pocket and just two cardboard suitcases
that held everything he owned, but he was finally living
his dream of becoming a winemaker in California.

Sustainable Gardening
Putting the Green Back Into Gardening
Many of us want to do our part to help the environment
and our world, but feel overwhelmed by everything out
there to know where to start. To begin, there are a few
simple but important things that individuals can do to
make a contribution to the health of our environment.
Most of us have heard of many things that they can do
in their home, such as recycling, changing to compact
fluorescent light bulbs, energy saving appliances, and
the list goes on and on. However, many do not know what
can be done in their own backyard to be green and also
save green. This article will help you accomplish both
with three wonderful green gardening tips.

Ship Shape
A coastal inspired home
Although it is just a short drive from the heart of
the city, when one walks through the front door of this
coastal-inspired home, you can almost hear the gentle
roar of the surf. “I love Martha’s Vineyard and have
been taking my annual holiday there for 15 years,” said
the homeowner. “I wanted to recreate that sense of place
back at home.”
